Live and Learn as a Parent

Ok, call me dumb, old, whatever.... My husband and I have been trying to find ways to help us loose waight. One of his suggestions was that we buy roller blades and use muscles that just walking or riding the bike doesn't use. So one beautiful afternoon, I take my children down to KMart and buy my six year old and myself a pair of roller blades. We then go down to the river and proceed to try to roller blade. My son is on his big wheel and takes off down the black topped path, I am doing ok, but my daughter continues to fall every three feet or so. She gets to the point where she is afraid to get up off the ground. I am feeling pulled because she is just sitting there crying, and my son is getting farther and farther away. I finally go back to my daughter and take her hand. We proceed to try to catch up to my son, but only make it about eight feet before she looses her balance again, BUT this time instead of just her falling, I go down too. She would not let go and ended up with three of her fingers smooshed, but me, well lets just say that I had enough padding on my rear to not hurt it, but I ended up jarring my upper back and getting hairline fractures on both wrists. OUCH! All the doctor said was that I had to remember that I am no longer young, I'm now 40, and that I should take back the roller blades. Did I ever say how much I like walking?

I have a six year old and a four year old. I have been homeschooling my six year old for the past two years. This last year we participated in a public school online program. That is where we got the "Gingerbread People Project" idea below.

Gingerbread People Project

You will find a small collection of Gingerbread People created by moms and children from all over the United States and around the World! Did you know Gingerbread are not just for the holidays?
This was an assignment given to my daughter from her teacher. We sent foam Gingerbread People out to family and new friends from TheMomPack. (We are still looking for people to send in their gingerbread people, and would love to have you send yours as well...)

Pizza

This weeks project is to make home made pizza. It is so much fun, and if you let your youngsters help, you can make it into a family tradition.

Two Pizza Crusts:

5 cups flour
2 pkgs active dry yeast
2 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
2 cups water

Mix all dry ingredients first, then add the water. It will appear to be too dry. No not add more water. Keep working dough until it is smooth.

Let dough rise once for about an hour. Punch it down and knead again. Please visit www.homecooking.about.com

Divide into two even balls.
Roll out to desired thickness.
Place on pan.
Spread 1 Tbsp Olive Oil on pizza crust.
Spread 1/4 - 1/2 cup Tomato Sauce on Pizza Crust.

Sprinkle 1/2 Cup graded Cheese over Tomato Sauce. Add desired toppings and cook for 25 - 40 minutes.
